Docksuns - Dancing on the Radio

Single Artwrok.jpeg

Docksuns are a five piece indie rock band from Sunderland, they are Neil Doutwaite (guitar), Adam Dawkins (bass), James Baxter(vocals/guitar), Glenn Laws (drums) and Stephen Keogh (guitar).

They formed in 2019 around the songwriting nucleus of lead guitarist Neil and vocalist James. They set out to write melodic rock’n’roll anthems, powered by hooky guitar riffs and a gritty north eastern working class attitude. They are literally, sons of the docks. They have an ambition to play Glastonbury in Sunderland shirts.

Their new single Dancing on the Radio tells the story of an ex who became a famous pop star and forgot her roots. The band, incidentally, don’t deny or confirm the existence of such an ex, but the track provides biting commentary on fame and suggests there is no place like home.

It’s a bold statement considering we’re all seeing far too much of home during lockdown… !!!

Dancing on the Radio was released today, Friday 5 June 2020, and it’s a banger of a tune it immediately launches into lyrics “dancing on the radio” and it is accompanied by a fantastic rhythm, great drum beat and guitar melody.

Lyrically, it describes the loss of an ex to fame with some clever lyrics “four fingers and a thumb I suppose we had something in common after all, I seen your face on the back of a magazine that I used to own as the years go by and time flies and you still live the high life, I could bring you back, down to earth with a smile, flashing lights and camera eyes you fell for that life over mine”.

There is a fantastic guitar hook as it pulls you into the ear worm of a chorus “I saw her dancing on the radio but it’s a face I’ll never know, dancing on the radio during the midnight show, dancing on the radio but that’s a face I’ll never know”.

The final verse talks about home being the place to be with the words “another day another dream another night Of fantasy, I can only hope she feels the same In her mansion in LA , Oi you stop dreaming, stay up all night if you need it, there’s no place like home, a plenty more where she’s from” before we end with that cracking chorus.

Dancing on the Radio is a fab track, it’s got a charming melody and a real anthemic chorus perfect for crowds to get involved in, give Docksuns some love and get listening to them now !!
